  • Professional observation (shadowing) is a hands-off clinical experience.
  • Observation hours must be completed within 30 days of start date with a minimum of 20 hours and a St. Luke’s lifetime maximum of 80 hours.
  • The number of observations St. Luke’s can accommodate is limited based on preceptor availability and current student volumes. St. Luke's cannot guarantee placement. 
  • Observation onboarding is completed through the online student management platform, myClinicalExchange (mCE). This process can begin once you have been approved for an observation experience. Note: You will be responsible for paying for a six-month mCE subscription fee due before you can begin onboarding.
  • Operating room (OR) and labor and delivery (L&D) observations are not allowed at St. Luke’s.
  • Observations are not allowed at St. Luke’s Canyon View Behavioral Health Services.
  • An observation experience cannot begin until the observer has completed all onboarding requirements and has been issued a St. Luke's Observer Badge.
