Building on Our Promise
St. Luke’s roots of caring for people in Idaho trace back to 1902. Over the past 120 years, we’ve grown into a national leader in quality — a top 15 health system in the U.S. for nine consecutive years — and the state’s only Idaho-based, not-for-profit health system. Each year, St. Luke’s clinics across the region see nearly 2 million patient visits. In the most recent fiscal year, more than 4,000 babies were delivered at our Boise Medical Center and more than 20,000 surgeries were performed — approximately 56 every day. As Idaho’s population continues to grow — Idaho was the second-fastest growing state in the nation in 2022, according to U.S. Census Bureau reports — we remain committed to meeting the health care needs of our communities.
Throughout this multi-year project, we have collaborated with city and county officials, health care providers, patients, neighbors, donors, businesses, nonprofits and more. In 2015, the city of Boise approved St. Luke's master plan to update the Boise Medical Center. This led to the construction of the innovative and kid-friendly St. Luke’s/Idaho Elks Children’s Pavilion, connected to Idaho’s only children’s hospital via a skybridge, and the new, state-of-the-art auxiliary facilities, including a new shipping and receiving building, designed and programmed to support future additions to the medical center, including the new hospital tower and medical office plaza.

Current Phase: Hospital Tower and Medical Office Plaza
St. Luke’s is constructing a new hospital tower and adjoining medical office plaza. These new buildings, all part of the city of Boise-approved master plan, will directly improve access to care for patients, while increasing St. Luke’s ability to care for the growing number of patients in our communities.

Bannock Street Corridor
After several years of planning and testing, Boise City Council approved the public access easement for Bannock Street corridor running through the St. Luke's Boise Medical Center campus. The collaborative efforts have transformed the one-block corridor into a dynamic shared space.

Master Plan Overview
The St. Luke's Boise development project will evolve over several years. This is not a “single project” proposal, but a multi-phase plan that will occur in stages over the years to come. At its core is our commitment to create an environment in which we can provide the best possible care for patients and families—an environment geared toward safety, healing, and comfort, following the most proven, effective, and efficient practices in healthcare facility design.
Additional Project Phases

The Children’s Pavilion is located just across the street from our Children’s Hospital and is connected via a skybridge. The building unites most of our pediatric specialties and our downtown Boise general pediatric services under one roof. The facility allows us to better coordinate services between providers and deliver care that meets the physical and emotional needs of our patients and families.
The Pavilion provides exciting amenities such as a teaching kitchen where families can learn to cook for children with special dietary needs and a sibling center to keep brothers and sisters entertained during long appointments. You'll also find convenient underground parking, waiting rooms filled with natural light, and several interactive, hands-on features for children to explore.
Timeline
- 2015 – Boise City Council approved St. Luke’s Boise Medical Center Master Facility Plan.
- 2016 – Ada County Highway District approved closure of Jefferson St. between Ave. B and 1st Street.
- 2017 – New roundabout at Ave. B and Fort Street completed to enhance traffic flow.
- 2017 – Sequoia tree near the Boise hospital relocated, now cared for by the city of Boise.
- 2018 – New cycle track around the hospital campus completed, improving cyclists’ routes.
- 2019 – New roundabout near 3rd Street, Fort and Robbins completed.
- 2019 – Idaho Elks Children's Pavilion opened, connected to Idaho’s only children’s hospital via skybridge over Ave. B, caring for thousands of Idaho’s kids.
- 2019 – Bannock Street reopens with new shared space design, allowing for multiple modes of travel.
- 2019 – Historic houses relocated, including two near the Boise hospital.
- 2021 – New patient parking garage along State Street completed.
- 2021 – New central utility plant completed, with updated and modernized equipment.
- 2021 – New shipping and receiving facility completed, with neighbor feedback incorporated in the design.
- 2023 – Reconfigured emergency department ambulance entrance near Ave. B and Jefferson Street.
- 2024 – Construction began on new hospital tower and medical office plaza.*

The Need to Grow
Our Boise facility is already at or near capacity. We need more space today, and we’ll need significantly more space, and different types of space in the coming years as the population of the Treasure Valley continues to grow.
