Pelvic Physical Therapy
Pelvic floor physical therapists have received specialized training to treat people with a variety of medical conditions, including:
- Urinary incontinence
- Urinary retention
- Fecal incontinence
- Constipation
- Pelvic pain
- Coccyx (tailbone) pain
Your pelvic floor physical therapist will work with you to determine the cause of your symptoms and develop an individualized course of treatment. Your treatment may include:
- Pelvic floor and core exercises
- Bowel or bladder diary
- Education, mindfulness, and meditation
- Postural education
- Relaxation techniques
- Manual therapy Biofeedback

Comprehensive Evaluation
The first step in your treatment is a comprehensive evaluation, which includes:
- A review of your medical and surgical history
- In-depth questioning regarding your bladder, bowel, and reproductive functioning
- A general exam to assess your posture, motion in your back and legs, reflexes, and lower extremity strength
- An abdominal assessment
- External and internal pelvic muscle assessments (with patient consent)
Your therapist will work with you to design a treatment plan based on the results of your evaluation and your individual needs.
